Folks,
There is now a requirement for all SSAC clubs to have a Child Protection Officer (CPO) appointed within the branch.
There will be a requirement for our club to appoint a CPO at the AGM next week. This person should attend one of these workshops.
Child Protection Workshop Sunday 19th April, 2009 ; 09.30 – 12.30 hrs.
This 3 hour workshop called Safeguarding and Protecting Children will be held at ScotSAC HQ.
ScotSAC recommend this workshop to all who hold a child care role i.e. B.I., R.I., R.C. and Examiner, including those who have attended a relevant course but have not yet completed all assessments. It is also recommended to all Branch CPO's if they have not already attended a child protection course.
It is recognised that people who work with children and juniors in sport, on a regular basis, may provide an important link in identifying a child or young person who has been, or is, at risk of being harmed.
The workshop provides an opportunity for participants to:
• identify and recognise good coaching practice and review their own coaching practice
• identify their values and feelings in relation to child abuse and how they might impact on their responses
• be able to recognise signs and indicators of abuse
• respond appropriately to children who disclose abuse
take appropriate action if concerns are raised that suggest a child is being abused.
To book a place please register details with HQ. The workshop is provided free of charge to participants.
Workshops are also run by Local Authorities and the calendar for 2009can be accessed at www.children1st.org.uk ; a copy is also available at HQ.
Branch Committees - Child Protection update
ScotSAC's action plan to meet the 2006 Accord for the Protection of Children in Scottish Sport requires us to meet various related targets.
With particular relevance to Branches we need each to appoint a Child Protection Officer and forward contact details to HQ. Many branches may already have made the appointment but we request that you ensure HQ has been notified as only a few have yet been forwarded.
Branches who presently have no junior members are included in this as updates to all members regarding child protection matters will be passed through the CPO.
The In Safe Hands Workshop run by Local Authorities is recommended to all CPO's who have junior members in their branch.
Branches with members under 18 years are also required to have a child protection policy in their branch constitution.
Cheers
Martin
