Two of the Duty Managers at the Recreation Centre are able to run first aid courses. I spoke to Chris last night and he advised that there are two courses which we may be interested in. First Aid Appointed Person - 4 hour course covering basic emergency first aid First Aid at Work - 24 hour course covering indepth first aid. This is an HSE approved course. Both courses can be run in blocks - ie. two hours at a time. The First Aid at work course needs to be completed within 13 weeks. Please can you let me know if you would be interested in either course. If there is sufficent interest in the First Aid Appointed Person, then this would most likely be run over 2 Monday nights 8pm to 10pm. Dates and times for the other course would be open to discussion with the trainers - but would not be on a Monday night. Costs for the First Aid at work would be max £120 per person. Not sure about the appointed first aid, but I wouldnt expect much more than £30 each. If you would like to read more detail about the courses, you can do so via www.sta.co.uk under the first aid section. Appointed First Aid (4 hour course) 1 2 3 4 5 6 First Aid at Work (24 hours course) 1 Thomas Duff 2 Sam Paske 3 Fiona Galbraith 4 5 6

Shove me down for the first aid at work course too. Not sure how it'll tie in with the shifts but I'm certainly provisionally interested.

Ok. If I were to arrange for the one day course to be run either on a Saturday or Sunday in December who would be interested? If you are interested, please can you indicate what days would NOT suit you. Would need responses asap in order to make this possible - ie. by Monday. If there is sufficent interest, would probably ask to run the full course early next year. thanks 1. Sam - All weekends ok in December except 24th/25th , would prefer not to do course on Sundays for obvious reasons.

Sam,
Are these courses with a view to having a Scotsac Qual for First Aid?

Nope the certificating body would be the STA - link on an earlier post to their website.
SCOTSAC do a HeartStart and 02 admin course, but according to Ronnie and Fiona they are pretty poor.
There are no SCOTSAC quals or courses (eg. Branch Instructor / Regional Instructor / Nitrox / Master Diver etc) that require you to have the SCOTSAC qualifications. (might be different for 1st Class but I would need to check that)
Based on Ronnies feedback I personally do not intend to do the SCOTSAC versions, hence the reason I've been chatting to the duty managers at the centre.
hope this answers your query
