From Calum Duncan - Marine Conservation Society
Dear all
There are still spaces left for two Seasearch Dive-In events on the weekend of 9-10 June (and also in Eyemouth on 24 June). These are relaxed diving events so don't feel that you need to have a huge amount of marine life knowledge to come along. You can meet likeminded divers who want to learn more about our stunning sea life, share identification tips and enjoy the satisfaction that you are helping marine conservation. You needn't have done a Seasearch training course to come along, provided that you are at least a BSAC/ScotSAC Sports Diver or equivalent, and have at least 20 dives, 10 of which have been in temperate waters.
Seasearch Eyemouth 9-10 June
As part of this exciting weekend where divers all over Britain will be getting a snapshot of our seas, with a focus on recording pipefish whose numbers have exploded in recent years, I have booked the hardboat Marine Quest out of Eyemouth (see www.marine-quest.co.uk/). This is a great opportunity to dive less-dived sites such as the coastline north of St Abbs Head to Fast Castle or south of Eyemouth to Burnmouth, depending on weather conditions, get some Seasearch experience, meet like-minded divers and learn more about Scottish marine life. Marine Quest also have a bunkhouse if you need accommodation 01890 752444 or 07780 823884.
Spaces: 5 (Saturday) and 3 (Sunday)
Cost: £56 for two days if we fill the boat or £61 if not filled
Seasearch 24 June
As above (23 June is full)
Spaces: 6
Cost: £28 for day
Contact Calum Duncan on scotland@mcsuk.org or 07841 985 595 for the above Eyemouth events or send a cheque for the full amount payable to 'Calum Duncan' to:

Seasearch Moray Firth 9-10 June
Marion still has spaces left on the national Seasearch weekend, "Dive In". On this weekend you will be one of a nationwide team surveying our coastline on sites all over the country. The Moray Firth, an area exceptionally rich in marine life, deserves a great survey effort, so please come and join in with this survey.
Saturday will be in the inner Moray Firth starting from Lossiemouth on board the excellent MV Top Cat (http://www.moraydiving.com/).
Cost:- Saturday £45
Sunday will be shore-diving in the Lossiemouth area.
Sunday is free but bring your own kit
As a part of "Dive In", we will also be surveying the now commonly seen pipefish. Pipefish numbers have been exploding since 2004, both near-shore as we see them, right out as far as the Mid Atlantic Ridge! Nobody knows why the numbers are rocketing and very little is known about their basic biology. As such Seasearch is launching a survey of Sygnathids (all members of the seahorse family including pipefish), in particular the two most commonly seen pipefish, snake and greater, and will include a competition for the best pipefish photos.
Please fill out the following information if you would like to come and send a cheque made payable to 'Marion Perutz' for £45 per person, to the address below.
