The Red Bull flug tag competetion is being held at South Queensferry / Dalmeny this year on 23 July For those of you who dont know what it is, it is basically an oppertunity for nutters to dress up as bird men and jump off high scaffolding into deep water. Does anyone fancy doing this on behalf of the club? I'm happy to help out but have no practial experience on building things and am a woose with heights. link to the Redbull website is here ....... www.redbullflugtag.co.uk/the only problem is that entries need to be in by the end of this month. it is a nationally advertised event and ususally covered on sky or one of the mtv type channels. I'm also going to contact them on behalf of the dive club to see if they need any safety divers / surface cover (not sure if HSE will allow it though - but if dont ask...) So if anyone wants to help out here - let me know ta

a suggestion has been a paper mache blue pig. I'm happy to help build it, but I am not jumping off the platform!!
can we have a volunteer to make the jump? otherwise not worth putting an entry in.

Ok - we now have our pilot for the PMBP (Paper Mache Blue Pig!). Hugh seems to be the only mad enough person in the club to agree to it.
The PMBP can actually take up to 5 'crew' so if anyone else does want to join then they can.
Does anyone want to help with the construction of the PMBP? I will be putting our entry in by the end of the month, and we should find out mid April if we have been selected for the actual flight! If anyone has any design ideas(serious or silly) , please can you let me know asap
thanks in advance

If we go for individual blue pigs with wings we could possibly (numbers dependent) have a largeish pig maybe six feet long with smaller piglets three or four feet that way any volunteers who decide not to jump on the day wont prevent everyone from jumping.
I will gladly help but dont like jump entries so wont jump unless for demonstration purposes or to pose for tourists at dunbar/lochaline

There is no chuffin' way you'll get me to be a pig pilot! I don't like jump entries with a drysuit on and a source of air. I ain't doing it with a papier mache pig wrapped round me.

Just had a thought about how we can put together something for this event with out it taking too much time. Does anyone remember the Wacky races cartoon? Check out this link and take a look at Rufus Ruffcut and Saw Tooth. Could we make a sort of flying machine with flapping wings along the same lines? Obviously I'd pilot it myself if it wasnt for my dodgy ticker... www.hotink.com/wacky/index1.html

I think I am going to be there covering it. I saw a video of Flugtag 1 last week and I had to be helped from the floor, with my ribs in tatters. Should be a riot even if there is only going to be 30 flights.
Have a go at the game on the site as well......

Jock - any chance that you can get a copy of the Flugtag 1 event as it woudl be good to have a look at it.
For anyone who wasnt at the club last night, we had a visit by the Red Bull 'Energy team' (ie. blonde female promos person) to whip up some energy in the club and get us motivated to put an entry in! Anyway she left a stack of Red Bull cans - so if anyone wants some please let me know

Sam, it was playing at an extreme sport PR junket I was at in Glasgow. I don't think I will be able to get it but I will try. I would recomend trying to get tickets, if not taking part, I think it would be a great day out.

cheers Jock. The application form is in the post today, so we should know by the 14th April if we have been selected or not.

Got a letter yesterday from Red Bull advising that the Flugtag event has been postponed till next year - something to do with migratory birds!
