I've never used anything other than Sunntos - the club ones, then a Solution Alpha and currently a Vyper.
Although I really like the Vyper, if I had to choose again I would purchase a Vytec as you can do gas changes mid dive for the Vytec eg for accelerated deco on Nitrox.
If you want to borrow my vyper for a test drive you are more than welcome.

I know you gave a choice of 2 but you might also consider the Apeks Quantum. It allows 2 different Nitrox mixes and you can switch between them during the dive. Mix 1 can be set to 21% to 50% at a pO2 of 1.4. Mix 2 can be 21% to 99% at a pO2 of 1.6. It bleeps loudly to let you know what deco to do and clearly states where to stop and for how long. It also calculates your N2 absorption, O2 toxicity and ascent rate. The usual features like time in/out, temp, max depth, average depth etc. are there too. If you want a shot you're more than welcome. It costs £150 - £200 depending on where you buy it. You can also get a smaller watch sized version called the Pulse for about £250 with all the same features.

I forgot to mention negative things. The light is fairly rubbish and only comes on for about 5 secs when you press it which if you read as slow as me you'll need to keep pressing (just use your torch as normal).

Before you go and purchase the Quantum you should know that in the last couple of days I've sent mine back to Simply Scuba cause it locked me out for no apparent reason. Hopefully I'll get a replacement that works but I don't want to be recommending something that might now turn out to be a pile of shit! Sorry

REBEL AGAINST TECHNOLOGY DONT BUY EITHER COMPTER USE A WATCH AND TABLES WITH DEPTH GUAGE you dont have to worry about programmes for nitrox and switching mixes through a dive coz you can do it on paper if or when you want
DOWN WITH COMPUTERS BOOOOOOO SSSSSSSSSS

Go with the Suunto, the deco model it uses produces the most sensible deco profile of the current computers (IMHO).

quantum problem. after sunday when it was working fine and all functions were ok; on monday i could get only the time screen; mode and a/b buttons not working. it's working again today. A) anyone seen this b4? B) anyone able to take it diving for me at weekend to see if it happens again?? im going to contact apeks anyway, but open to suggestions.
